Charles has practiced law in Providence since 1996, first at Hinckley, Allen & Snyder and later as a partner in his own business law firms. He has participated in the defense and prosecution of lawsuits and commercial arbitrations throughout the country for national and local companies, including banks, manufacturers, insurance companies, hospitals, condominium associations and real estate developers. An experienced trial and appellate lawyer, Charles appears often in the state and federal courts in Rhode Island and Massachusetts, and has represented clients in appeals before Rhode Island Supreme Court, Massachusetts Appeals Court and the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. Some of the cases that Charles has brought to trial include banking and business matters, trademark and copyright litigation, land title disputes and trust and estate litigation.

A significant portion of Charles' practice is focused on real estate disputes and condominium law, including zoning, land use, title, easement and boundary disputes, and he is widely regarded as an authority on these areas in Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Charles' clients include individual property owners, condominium associations and real estate developers.

Charles lives in Pawtucket, Rhode Island with his wife, Lisa Roth Blackman, and their two children. He is the treasurer of Temple Emanu-el. In the recent past he was a member of the Pawtucket Historic District Commission, a trustee of the Wheeler School and an officer and board member of Jewish Family Service of Rhode Island.
