They have also represented clients in mediation and arbitration throughout the United States. Among the many cases they have handled are complex contract disputes, construction litigation, employment disputes, securities matters, bankruptcy litigation and intellectual property disputes. Their clients have included banks, manufacturers, software developers, utilities, retailers, railroads and real estate developers, to name just a few. Over the years, both Charles and Jeff have developed reputations as skilled advocates who provide cost effective, practical representation and always have their client's best interests in mind.

BUSINESS TRANSACTIONS

Jeff Levy advises clients in connection with purchasing and selling businesses, forming joint ventures, and negotiating complex contracts. As division general counsel of a large multinational corporation, Jeff was responsible for drafting and negotiating contracts with customers, vendors and business partners, as well as managing acquisitions and divestitures throughout the United States, Canada and South America. Jeff sometimes acts as outside general counsel to small or medium sized businesses without an in-house legal staff, as well as larger foreign companies who lack a legal presence in North America. His clients have included a regional charter airline, a manufacturer of architectural lighting, and a European manufacturer and operator of water treatment technologies.

REAL ESTATE AND CONDOMINIUM LAW

A significant portion of Charles Blackman's practice is focused on real estate disputes and condominium law, including zoning, land use, title, easement and boundary disputes, and he is widely regarded as an expert in these areas in Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Charles' clients include individual property owners, condominium associations and real estate developers.

EMPLOYMENT LAW and non-compete agreements

Jeff Levy counsels businesses of all sizes in employment matters, including employment policies, internal investigations and employment disputes. He also represents both plaintiffs and defendants in employment litigation in state and federal court and before administrative agencies. Jeff has litigated numerous disputes involving non-compete agreements, and frequently advises clients regarding the enforceability of non-competes in various jurisdictions.

corporate governance and compliance

As division general counsel for a large publicly traded company in a highly regulated industry, Jeff Levy was responsible for all aspects of corporate governance and compliance, including policy development and enforcement, compliance training, and internal investigations. He counsels US and European businesses on board composition and management, FCPA and UK Bribery Act compliance, and compliance with other federal, state and local laws.

CONSTRUCTION LAW and public-private partnerships

Our attorneys have experience negotiating complex construction contracts, especially in projects with public sector clients. Jeff Levy's expertise in this area extends to alternative project delivery methods such as Design-Build (D/B), Design-Build-Operate (D/B/O), and Construction Manager At Risk (CMAR). Both Jeff Levy and Charles Blackman have experience litigating, arbitrating and mediating construction related disputes.

aviation law

Jeff Levy acted as outside general counsel to a Florida-based regional charter airline for over a decade, from formation and FAA certification through its eventual sale in 2014. Jeff has appeared before the FAA in administrative actions and is familiar with the Federal Aviation Regulations governing private and charter operators (Parts 91 and 135).
